See You at Breakfast: A Different Take on Forever

What if death isn't goodbye forever, but just "see you in a bit"? A different perspective on loss, love, and eternal connection.

See You at Breakfast: A Different Take on Forever

I walked out of my best friend's house after dinner, knowing I'd be back the next morning for breakfast. This had been our routine for a few weeks because I didn't have kitchen-access at my home (a story that is a true tangent to this, so let's keep that aside for a moment).

These past few weeks, I had been thinking about death, separation and grief.

And when I left his house, I knew I was only going to be away for a few hours.

But as I stepped into the cool night air, a thought struck me like lightning:

What is death, if not the disappearance of a loved one for just a few hours?

Maybe, it's like leaving your loved one's house only to return in the morning with the same love and enthusiasm to spend time with them again. In that meantime, I get to rest but I also get to come back in changed clothes.

Maybe, what we perceive as death is just someone simply checking out of their body and coming back wearing a new one, in a different timeline.

Maybe the time we spend on this Earth missing them: the ache, the longing, the empty chair at breakfast, is less than a few minutes in the grand scale of your timelessness.

In the infinite expanse of the Soul, perhaps goodbye is just "see you in a bit."

I'm leaving you and it becomes night. But I'll be back and it'll be dawn.
